Head of AI

LUT Universities are seeking a visionary and dynamic Head of AI to join our community. 

This strategic role involves shaping and guiding the Artificial Intelligence initiatives across LUT University and LAB University of Applied Sciences, as well as fostering an environment of innovation, collaboration, and responsible AI use. The Head of AI will play a pivotal role in integrating AI into research, teaching, and administrative processes ensuring that our universities remain at the forefront of AI advancements while adhering to ethical standards.

The key responsibilities are to

Lead the creation and implementation of a comprehensive AI vision, strategy and roadmap that aligns with the LUT Universities’ goals, promoting cutting-edge and applied research, and the integration of AI in education. The Head of AI serves as a bridge between departments, facilitating interdisciplinary AI projects, fostering collaboration, and providing expert advice to enhance research and teaching methodologies through AI.

Act as the LUT Universities’ AI ambassador, engaging with stakeholders to foster collaborations, support AI initiatives and elevate the universities’ AI profile. The Head of AI is expected to develop and oversee the implementation of AI best practices and ethical use.

We expect from the applicant

• Experience in AI initiatives, preferably in an academic, research, or business environment considering responsible use of AI
• Strategic thinking, with the ability to conceptualize and execute a long-term vision for AI, balancing innovation with practical implementation
• Master’s or Doctoral degree in Computer Science, AI, Data Science, Information Management, Business Analytics, or a related field
• Skills to communicate complex AI concepts to diverse audiences and to inspire individuals and teams towards achieving the vision and goals of AI initiatives
• Lean and agile mindset in responding to the evolving AI landscape, with a willingness to continuously learn and adapt strategies
• You have a fluent command of English, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Finnish is also an asset

Your home campus will be either in Lappeenranta or in Lahti. The employment relationship is permanent and full-time. 

The work will begin as soon as possible by agreement and has a six-month trial period.
