The Electrical Engineering unit at the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences in the Tampere University invites applications for a Doctoral Researcher position in the field of satellite-based positioning (The Signal Processing for Wireless Positioning -research group).

Job description

The Doctoral Research will participate in the activities related to wireless satellite positioning in a transnational research project and will enroll as a PhD student at Tampere University in the Electrical Engineering Unit of the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences. The research work will focus on enhancing GNSS receiver security and robustness through AI and machine learning techniques, for example by implementing AI/ML techniques for RF fingerprinting with satellite navigation signals and studying collaborative positioning methods for threat localization.  The research work is more focused on GNSS receivers than AI/ML and therefore prior knowledge about digital signal processing, wireless communications or GNSS is essential. The researcher will participate in all the PhD-related activities (attending lectures and writing publications) required for a PhD thesis and will also participate in writing deliverables (about once/year), in regular project meetings with the steering committee and in various project-related workshops. Two months secondment to our US partner are also part of the project, therefore the applicants must be willing to travel to US and are expected to have no restrictions to travel.  Publications are very important during the project duration. The researcher will be provided with supervision in a team with deep expertise on satellite-based wireless positioning.
