IHA-Innovative Hydraulics and Automation research group is looking for Doctoral Researchers. The IHA educates new generations of professionals to the PhD level with multidisciplinary engineering knowledge needed for intelligent off-road mobile machinery development. The doctoral training connects academic research excellence with relevant industrial research to accelerate the renewal of mobile machine industry.
Job description
Tampere University is looking for two Doctoral Researchers in the areas of mobile and industrial hydraulics, control, automation, and electrical engineering to boost area of intelligent off-road mobile machines. Successful candidates will pursue a doctoral degree at Tampere University. The positions are full-time and for 2-3 years with option for further contract.
Requirements
You need to have a Master’s degree in an applicable areas listed above and motivation to pursue postgraduate studies. MATLAB/Simulink skills are needed, and good understanding of hydraulic systems is highly appreciated. Please be prepared to provide proof of your merits when requested.
The position requires working full-time in Tampere, Finland for the time of the employment.
The candidate must be able to demonstrate English language skills that are sufficient to follow doctoral studies.
The research topics of the open positions:
As a doctoral researcher, you would be studying at least one of following topics:
- Thermal management of electric hybrid drives for intelligent off-road mobile machines
- Intelligent model-based development to support sustainability and electrification of off-road machinery
- Novel energy-efficient work functions of off-road mobile machinery

We offer
The position will be filled for a fixed-term period. The starting date is 1st of February 2025 or as mutually agreed. A trial period of six (6) months applies to all our new employees. The salary will be based on both the job requirements and the employee’s personal performance in accordance with the salary system of Finnish universities. According to the criteria applied to teaching and research staff, the position of a doctoral researcher is placed on level 2—4 of the job requirements scale. A typical starting salary for doctoral researchers is approximately 2,600-2,900 EUR/month. The salary increases based on experience and the progress of doctoral studies.

Rekrytoitavien tehtävät liittyvät seuraaviin tutkimusalueisiin:
- Hybridityökoneiden tehonsiirron lämmönhallinta
- Liikkuvien työkoneiden sähköistäminen ja ympäristöystävällinen kehittäminen
- Liikkuvien työkoneiden uudet energiatehokkaat toimilaiteratkaisut
