This position reports to Business Line Technology Manager.

Your role and responsibilities
We are looking for an R&D Engineer to join our team at ABB Oy Marine and Ports division in Helsinki (Vuosaari) Finland. In this role, you will be part of our global R&D team focusing on marine and ports decarbonization systems and digital services. As a member of the R&D team, you will be responsible for developing ship and port power systems and energy optimization systems.

The main stakeholders in this role are R&D, Product Management, Sales and Supply Chain Management.

You will be mainly accountable for:
– Developing, optimizing, testing and implementing systems related to decarbonization and digitalization
– Interpreting and understanding market requirements and turning them into technical specifications
– Creating and owning documentation related to developed solutions
– Conducting pre-studies and case studies on new applications to create overview on benefits from new solutions
– Conducting simulations, prototype testing, and documentation to ensure designs meet the highest standards

Qualifications for the role:
– An M.Sc. or A B.Sc. in Energy and Process Engineering
– Minimum 1-2 years of experience working on energy management and optimization topics
– Previous experience in ABB Optimax platform is considered an advantage for the role
– Previous experience in waste heat recovery systems is considered an advantage for the role
– Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is essential in the role; Swedish skills are an advantage
– This role requires willingness to travel internationally (10 %)
– Familiarity with marine classification rules is considered an advantage
– Experience in electrical systems such as power converters, switchgear and transformers, as well as experience in green energy and power sources (such as fuel cells, battery energy storages and hydrogen) are considered an advantage
