The Department of Accounting and Commercial Law at Hanken School of Economics invites applications for the position of Associate Professor or Professor in ‘Sustainability and Business Law’.

Main responsibilities
As an Associate Professor/Professor, you conduct your own research and teach. Your main responsibilities consist of:
- Conducting research that meets high international levels, publishing your research in high-quality journals, and communicating the results of your work to the business community and to society at large,
- Contributing to the research efforts and the development of new research capabilities and projects of the Department of Accounting and Commercial Law,
- Contributing to the competence development of students by providing research-based teaching and supervision
- Contributing to the development of the teaching competence of the department.
Requirements
The requirements for an Associate Professor are; a doctorate degree, demonstrated high levels of international research competence, high levels of teaching skills and extensive teaching experience, contribution to institutional service and societal impact. The employment contract for an Associate Professor is permanent with the possibility to advance to full Professor in accordance with Hanken’s tenure track rules.
The requirements for a Professor are; a doctorate degree, demonstrated continued high levels of international research competence, demonstrated continued high levels of teaching quality, demonstrated continued contribution to institutional service and societal impact.
Internationally high levels of scientific research competence may be demonstrated through research publications, success in acquiring external competitive funding, international research cooperation and academic expert assignment, for example. Continued high levels of teaching quality may be demonstrated through extensive experience of teaching and supervising bachelor, master’s, executive education and/or doctoral students, for example. High levels of institutional service may be demonstrated through experience of participation in administrative tasks within an academic department, faculty or university and leadership. High levels of societal impact may be demonstrated through continued and extensive interaction with the stake holders and other activities that greatly benefit societal development.
Being a stand-alone business school with strong Nordic roots, Hanken offers high-quality degree programmes in Swedish and English. Applicants are required to have fluent command of English. Hanken supports international faculty in learning the Swedish language.
Academic staff at Hanken are expected to carry out and supervise scientific research, provide high quality academic teaching, closely follow the advances of their field, and participate in service to Hanken, the academic community, and the society. The teaching is relevant for every subject at Hanken. Teaching tasks are allocated based on the curriculum needs of the subject and by considering applicant’s expertise. The annual working time, according to the collective agreement, is 1612 hours. During the academic year, it is expected that a minimum average of three days per week is spent at the office in Helsinki to actively contribute to the research and teaching environment.
Research is the most important of the four different qualification areas followed by teaching, and then service and societal impact. Evaluation will respect the national recommendation for responsible evaluation.Evaluation of candidates shall be made using a holistic consideration of all submitted materials.

Salary
The salary is based on the university salary system in Finland (includes employee healthcare as well as pension and holiday contributions); however, the exact salary level depends on the recruited individual’s qualifications and performance. In addition to the salary, the Hanken support foundation grants faculty members substantial publication awards for high-quality publications, including individual research budgets, which is currently set as 4000 euros/year for the first two years of employment.

- CV, including a list of publications (proposed content)
- Personal statement, which includes a description of past and on-going research, research collaboration with other scholars, contributions to international scientific networks, involvement in applications for external research funding, contributions to the pedagogical development in the department or university beyond own teaching, contributions through institutional service to the department and own university, and contributions through societal impact. The personal statement needs to be written with the position in question in mind.
- Selected copies of no more than five (for associate professorship) or ten (for professorship research publications in pdf form
- List of publications (with the most significant publications highlighted, maximum 10 for a full professor and 5 for associate professor)
- A teaching portfolio (proposed content)
- Relevant certificates and decisions (e.g. degree certificates, training certificates language certificates, grant decision)
- Up to three letters of reference from academic researchers to be submitted directly to Hanken via humanresources@hanken.fi
