We are looking for a Doctoral Researcher to join our research team in eColabor research project (https://projects.tuni.fi/ecolabor/) funded by the Research Council of Finland. The project examines multi-actor collaboration toward sustainable innovation, with specific focus on the governance of multi-actor ecosystems from law, policy, and management perspectives. The position is associated with CITER research group at the Industrial Engineering and Management Unit, Faculty of Management and Business. The position will be filled from January 1, 2025 (or as mutually agreed) for a fixed-term period of three years.
Job description
The position to be filled focuses on the governance of multi-actor collaboration for sustainable innovation. In the position, the doctoral researcher will work as a part of a multi-disciplinary research consortium and will take an active role in contributing to the project’s overall objectives.
Work in the position focuses on (i) the challenges that arise in multi-actor collaborations targeting the development and commercialization of sustainability-improving solutions, and (ii) the development of new research insights on the tools that can be deployed to promote such collaboration from an industrial or business management viewpoint. The content of the research work can be specified and adjusted according to the interests and expertise of the candidate.
The researcher will also engage in project tasks, including communication, interaction with the project’s academic, policy-maker, and industrial partners, dissemination of results, and the organization of project events.
The researcher is expected to write and present scientific research findings in international conferences and journals, and pursue a doctoral degree in Tampere University. Upon separate agreement, the position may also include tasks related to teaching in the field of industrial engineering and management.
Requirements
Candidates are expected to have an interest in the themes of the eColabor project and basic understanding of the topics, such as sustainable business, multi-actor collaboration, and / or network and ecosystem management and governance.
More specifically, success in the position requires that you:
- Hold a master’s degree in subjects related to the position, for example in industrial engineering and management, information and knowledge management, or business studies. You may also apply if you are in the final stages of your M.Sc. degree and will graduate by the end of 2024.
- Have sufficient oral and written language skills. Proficiency in English is essential, and proficiency in Finnish is considered as an advantage.
- Have the ability and motivation to pursue doctoral studies in industrial engineering and management at Tampere University.
- Are able to work as a part of multi-disciplinary research team as well as plan and conduct research work independently.
In addition, previous experience with research, interest in participating in teaching, and relevant non-academic work experience are considered as advantages in working in the position.

The position is located at CITER research group, which is part of the Faculty of Management and Business, Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM) Unit. The CITER group is a vibrant research community which focuses on a wide range of research topics in the areas of sustainable business, sustainable industrial value chains, circular economy, and business ethics. The researcher will be supported by experienced researchers working in the eColabor project, as well as the wider CITER community.
The doctoral researcher position will be filled from January 2025, or as mutually agreed. The position is filled for a fixed-term period of three years. A trial period of six (6) months applies to all our new employees.
The salary will be based on both the job requirements and the employee’s personal performance in accordance with the salary system of Finnish universities. According to the criteria applied to teaching and research staff, the position of a Doctoral Researcher is placed on level 2–4 of the job requirements scale. A typical starting salary for Doctoral Researchers is approximately 2600-2700 EUR/month.

Etsimme väitöskirjatutkijaa kestävyyttä edistäviä ekosysteemejä ja niiden johtamista tarkastelevaan eColabor -tutkimusprojektiin, jota rahoittaa Suomen Akatemia (https://projects.tuni.fi/ecolabor/). Projektissa tutkitaan monitoimijayhteistyötä ja ekosysteemien hallintaa johtamistutkimuksen sekä oikeustieteen näkökulmista. Tehtävä täytetään 1.1.2025 alkaen tai sopimuksen mukaan määräaikaisena ja tehtävän kesto on 3 vuotta.
Väitöskirjatutkijan tehtäviin kuuluu tutkimuksen tekeminen eColabor-projektin tavoitteiden mukaisesti sisältäen tutkimustulosten julkaisemisen akateemisissa konferensseissa ja kausijulkaisuissa. Tutkimuksen sisältö liittyy erityisesti (i) monitoimijayhteistyön haasteiden tunnistamiseen kestävien ratkaisujen kehittämisessä ja kaupallistamisessa, sekä (ii) ekosysteemien johtamiseen liittyvien koordinoinnin ja hallinnoinnin menetelmien tarkasteluun. Työn sisältöä voidaan tarkentaa tekijän oman mielenkiinnon ja osaamistaustan mukaan kuitenkin huomioiden projektin tavoitteet.
Hakijalta odotetaan aktiivista osallistumista hankkeen tutkimustyöhön. Lisäksi hakijan odotetaan sitoutuvan jatko-opintoihin Tampereen yliopistossa. Tehtävään kuuluu myös osallistuminen projektin viestintään ja vuorovaikutustehtäviin. Erikseen sovittaessa työnkuvaan voidaan sisällyttää opetukseen liittyviä tehtäviä.
