We are looking for an excellent candidate to fill the position of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Media.

The appointed position will be based in the Communication Sciences Unit at The Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences at Tampere University.   

Job description

We are searching for a scholar whose research focuses on interaction between artificial intelligence and media and who primarily seeks to make contributions to media research or other closely related fields.  The candidate to be selected for the position can apply artificial intelligence and related methods in media research and study the impact of AI on society, media users, journalism, media management, media psychology, media culture, or politics in media, for example.

In other words, we are searching for a candidate who simultaneously has experience in applying generative AI and large language models and is well-versed in key approaches and methods in communication sciences to lead, conduct and teach interdisciplinary research.

Requirements

Applications are welcomed to all tenure track levels (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor). You should have a doctoral degree in an applicable field and have experience in research in academia in the respective field or fields. You regularly publish at top tier venues in related fields. Further requirements for each tenure track level are as follows: 

Assistant Professor 

• applicable doctoral degree,
• ability to undertake independent scholarly activity and potential to pursue scholarly activity at a high international level of excellence,
• teaching skills required to successfully perform the duties and functions of the position. 

Associate Professor 

• applicable doctoral degree
• track record of independent scholarly activity
• teaching skills required to successfully perform the duties and functions of the position
• ability to lead a research group and acquire external funding
• track record of international scholarly activity. 

Professor 

• applicable doctoral degree
• high-level international scholarly expertise
• experience of leading scientific research
• ability to provide high-quality research-based education and instruction
• track record of winning external research funding
• track record of international scholarly activity 

We offer

Initial appointment for assistant professor and for associate professor is for five years. Subject to successful performance, you will become a tenured member of the faculty staff at the end of the first five-year period. You will be well-supported throughout the five-year period to ease transition to faculty positions. Full professors will hold a permanent appointment from the outset. Salaries are based on the job demands and employees’ personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. Typical starting salary range will be from 4,500 to €5,250 EUR/month for an assistant professor and from 5,250 to 6,100 EUR/month for an associate professor and from 6,250-7,250 EUR/month for a professor. Higher salaries may be negotiated for candidates with exceptional experience and/or performance.

Tehtävänkuvaus       

Etsimme tutkijaa, jonka tutkimus keskittyy tekoälyn ja median vuorovaikutukseen ja joka pyrkii ensisijaisesti edistämään median tutkimusta tai muita läheisiä aloja. Tehtävään valittava henkilö osaa soveltaa tekoälyä ja siihen liittyviä menetelmiä median tutkimuksessa sekä tutkia tekoälyn vaikutuksia esimerkiksi yhteiskuntaan, median käyttäjiin, journalismiin, mediakulttuuriin, mediayhteisöihin, mediajohtamiseen, mediapsykologiaan tai politiikkaan mediassa.

Toisin sanoen etsimme henkilöä, jolla on sekä kokemusta generatiivisen tekoälyn ja suurten kielimallien soveltamisesta että vahva perehtyneisyys viestintätieteiden keskeisiin lähestymistapoihin ja menetelmiin, jotta hän voi johtaa, toteuttaa ja opettaa monitieteistä tutkimusta.
