Tampere University System-in-Package Fabrication (SiPFAB) is now looking for a Cleanroom maintanence engineer
System-in-Package Fabrication (SiPFAB) is a new infrastructure being established at the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences (ITC) of Tampere University. Located on the Hervanta campus, SiPFAB focuses on chip packaging, integration, and testing. The pilot line provides a unique environment for combining and testing Wide Bandgap (WBG) chips and various semiconductor components as complete system solutions..
SiPFAB enables the development and experimentation of future-oriented, environmentally friendly, and customized packaged chip systems. The infrastructure supports research and pilot-scale development of emerging chip technologies that drive energy-efficient solutions for applications in industry, transportation, and energy systems.
The pilot line is industry oriented. SiPFAB offers companies research and development services, piloting opportunities, and expert support across all stages of chip integration and packaging — from concept to prototype and pre-production.
SiPFAB is part of the ChipsJU Wide Band Gap Pilot Line, which contributes to the European objective of strengthening the semiconductor technology and manufacturing ecosystem.
WBG Pilot Line infrastructures
The national nodes of the WBG Pilot line will host different cleanroom facilities enabling the transition from research to industrial-scale production in the WBG and Ultra-WBG semiconductor technologies, consolidating Europe’s autonomy in the semiconductor sector.

JOB DESCRIPTION
As the cleanroom engineer of SiPFAB, you will ensure daily functionality of cleanroom facility for the semiconductor fabrication. Daily work will include troubleshooting and maintaining the cleanroom infrastructure. You will work with various specialists for the upkeep and upgrades of advanced facilities. From early on, you get to influence the technical selections and working habits of SiPFAB.
Independent work and responsibilities:
- Take part in setting up a new cleanroom
- Execute regular maintenance of infrastructure and generic equipment
- Overlook the safety of the cleanroom
- Training of cleanroom users
- Trouble shoot and fix generic equipment
- Define, arrange, schedule and supervise maintenance of the infrastructure and generic equipment
- Prepare the facility for equipment installation
- Lead or support on upgrade and procurement projects
- The co-operation with internal and external stakeholders is essential in this position.
Supportive responsibilities :
- Trouble shooting of specialized process equipment
- Overlook and support on various outsourced maintenances
- Install and define process equipment
- Development feedback for laboratory management software (LIMS/MES)
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree
- Prior experience of independent responsibilities as a cleanroom engineer
- Knowledge of safety aspects of semiconductor process gases and chemicals
- Knowledge of building automation related to cleanrooms
- Proactive work style
Master’s degree and prior knowledge or experience of semiconductor processes are considered advantages. Finnish language skills are also important in the position as there will be frequent communication with for example Finnish speaking subcontractors.

The position will be filled on permanent basis, commencing preferably in early 2026 or as mutually agreed. Appointments will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a trial period of 6 months.
The salary will be based on both the job requirements and the employee’s personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System (current new salary tables only available in Finnish). The official job title for the selected candidate will be Specialist. The position of Specialist is placed at requirement levels 8-10 in the salary system (Other Expert and Support Staff). The tentative requirement level for the position is at level 9.
