Project Researcher – Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)

We are looking for skilled Engineers interested in project research at the Maritime Technology research group at Novia University of Applied Sciences. This position offers the opportunity to develop novel model-based approaches for systems design, testing, and workflow automation in the maritime domain in collaboration with skilled researchers and industry professionals. This role is ideal for ambitious and research-minded individuals seeking to solve real-world engineering problems in the maritime domain.

What you’ll be doing
– Develop and apply Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methods to improve lifecycle processes in the maritime engineering domain.
– Research and apply co-simulation methods for hardware-, model-, and software-in-the-loop (HIL/MIL/SIL) testing of maritime systems.
– Research and develop methods for workflow automation in systems engineering.

Ways to stand out from the crowd
– Practical work experience with MBSE methods.
– Familiarity with automation communication protocols (e.g. OPC-UA, Modbus, and IoT protocols) open standards relevant for MBSE (e.g. SysML and FMI).
– Projects that demonstrate good problem-solving and programming skills (e.g., git repository or equivalent).

What we’re looking for
– Individuals with a M.Sc. degree (or higher) in relevant engineering field (e.g. process and systems engineering, automation, or computer engineering).
– Experience with systems modeling, simulation, and design.
– Strong problem-solving skills, curiosity, a willingness to learn, and a research-oriented mindset.
– Proficiency in at least one programming language.
– Proficient written and oral communication skills in English.

Employment
For the period 27.04.2026 – 30.06.2027 or according to the agreement. Part-time employment is possible by agreement.

Salary according to Collective agreement for universities of applied sciences and internal directives. The position includes a probationary period equal to half the length of the contract.

Location
Turku or Vaasa, Finland.
