IB MYP & DP Finnish Language & Literature Teacher (Home Language)
The International School of Helsinki (ISH) is a vibrant, inclusive, and non-profit learning community offering education to students aged 4 to 18 through the International Baccalaureate (IB) continuum. Are you a dedicated and experienced Finnish Language and Literature Teacher? We are seeking an energetic and passionate Middle Years Program (MYP) and Diploma Program (DP) Finnish Language & Literature Teacher to support students in developing their language proficiency, literary analysis skills, and cultural understanding. This is a full-time, permanent position in our IB World School, where inquiry-based learning and linguistic diversity are highly valued.
Key Responsibilities Include:
– Teach Finnish Language & Literature to students in the MYP and DP programs.
– Develop and deliver engaging, inquiry-based lessons aligned with the IB MYP and DP frameworks.
– Guide students in exploring Finnish literature, culture, and linguistic development through critical reading and writing.
– Support students in DP Finnish A: Literature, including preparation for internal and external assessments.
– Foster an appreciation for literature, language evolution, and creative expression in Finnish.
– Differentiate instruction to support diverse language abilities and learning styles.
– Assess and provide meaningful feedback on student progress following IB assessment criteria.
– Collaborate with colleagues, parents, Language and Literature Instructional Lead, and the MYP and DP Directors to enhance the Language & Literature program.
– Promote Finnish language and literature more broadly on campus, including through programming and outreach connected to Finnish Independence Day and other cultural events.
– Advance DEIJ priorities in Finnish literary studies by exploring relevant DEIJ themes and foregrounding diverse voices, including Sámi literature and other underrepresented works, with attention to texts in translation.
– Actively maintain a culture of vigilance to identify any changes in student well-being, reporting all concerns promptly in line with school safeguarding procedures.

Qualifications & Experience
– Bachelors or preferably Masters degree in Finnish Language & Literature, Education, Linguistics, or a related field.
– Teaching certification and significant teaching experience, preferably in an IB MYP/DP setting or international school.
– Strong understanding of IB Finnish Language & Literature curriculum, literary analysis, and inquiry-based teaching methods.
– Passion for fostering linguistic and cultural identity among Finnish-speaking students.
– Ability to create a student-centered, engaging learning environment.
– Excellent communication, differentiation, and classroom management skills.
– Fluency in Finnish and English.
