EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art is looking for a Head of Collections
EMMA is seeking a Head of Collections for a permanent full-time position to lead the museums collections team. We are looking for a strategically minded professional to help shape EMMAs long-term collection vision and to advance responsible, sustainable, and accessible collection practices.
As Head of Collections, you will lead and develop EMMAs collection activities and contribute to the museums overall development as a member of the executive team and steering group. The collections team is also responsible for art in public spaces in Espoo, which you will oversee as part of your role. Your responsibilities include serving as the supervisor for the collection team, developing the museums collection policy and processes, leading acquisition processes, curating collection-related projects, and overseeing collection management. You will work closely with key stakeholders, including City of Espoo and partners involved in deposited collections, and actively maintain networks within the museum and art sectors.
We offer you a unique vantage point on diverse collection work within a dynamic and highly skilled professional community, where collaboration and a positive atmosphere are at the heart of everything we do.
To succeed in this role, you will need an appropriate higher education degree, strong experience in working with museum collections, proven leadership skills, excellent communication skills, solid familiarity with Finnish and Nordic art, and a strong understanding of modern and contemporary art and/or design. Financial literacy, project management skills, and excellent command of English are essential, while Finnish language skills are considered an asset. As the collection team is also responsible for public art, prior experience in this area is also considered an asset. We value a solution-oriented attitude, strong organisational and collaboration skills, resilience, flexibility, a commitment to continuous learning and strong social perceptiveness.
The salary is determined according to EMMAs salary system (approx. €5450/month). In addition, we offer a comprehensive range of employee benefits, such as lunch, sports, and cultural benefits.
For more information about the position, please contact HR Manager Jenny Kupiainen-Särkilahti at +3584578850314 on February 10, 2026 between 13:00–15:00 and on February 23, 2026 between 10:00–12:00. Interviews are planned for mid-March.
