Test Engineer, Hamina, ABB Oy Marine and Ports

We are looking for a Test Engineer to join the R&D team at ABB Oys Marine & Ports business unit. In this role, you will work with testing activities related to the Azipod® propulsion system and contribute to the development of both practical testing operations and testing environments.

Azipod® propulsion is a gearless steerable system in which the electric motor is located outside the ships hull in a submerged pod. The Azipod® units can rotate 360 degrees, improving both manoeuvrability and efficiency. As part of our R&D team, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of this cuttingedge technology in a truly international environment.

As a Test Engineer, you will be responsible for planning, executing and monitoring tests on various mechanical and electrical devices and components. Your daily work involves running tests, collecting and analysing measurement data, and maintaining test systems. The role is handson and requires regular presence at the Hamina test area, however occasional visits to the Helsinki office are also part of the everyday work.

Your responsibilities

– executing and developing mechanical and electrical test programs
– collecting, interpreting and reporting measurement and test data
– maintaining and supporting the testing environment
– practical equipment and field work as part of testing activities
What we expect from you

– a relevant technical degree (e.g. mechanical, electrical or automation engineering)
– previous experience in testing or commissioning tasks
– a proactive and systematic working style and genuine interest in technical equipment
– fluency in English (Finnish is an advantage)
Additionally, experience in electrical or mechanical design, understanding of hydraulics, programming skills as well as basic skills in viewing and interpreting 3D models are considered an advantage.
