Climate & Innovations Communications Lead

Outokumpu is a global leader in sustainable stainless steel, with climate action and pioneering material innovations at the core of our strategy. We are seeking a seasoned communications professional to contribute our global climate narrative on innovations, decarbonization investments and partnerships enabling Outokumpu’s industrial evolution.

You will lead Outokumpu’s climate and innovation storytelling in close cooperation with Group Sustainability and CTO Office. In this role, youll take editorial ownership of our sustainability reporting, shape thought leadership across global platforms, and equip senior executives for impactful engagements.

The role is based at Outokumpus headquarters in Helsinki, Finland, Brussels, Belgium or in Krefeld, Germany, and sits within the broader Marketing, Communications & Public Affairs function, reporting to the Head of Strategic Themes.

Key Responsibilities
-Drive Outokumpu’s repositioning as the pioneer in materials and technologies that power tomorrow through compelling storytelling.
-Articulate our climate leadership and sustainability progress, linking company decarbonization to sectoral policy frameworks such as the EU Clean Industrial Deal and Carbon Boarder Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
-Drive the editorial development of the Sustainability Statement, and translate ESRS disclosures into clear, accurate, and engaging narratives.
-Develop thought leadership content including position papers, op-eds, speeches, and panel talking points.
-Coordinate media engagements, coalition statements, and joint communications with external partners.

What You Bring
– 5+ years of experience in sustainability and/or corporate communications, paired with a genuine interest in technology and the ability to understand and translate technical topics into compelling narratives.
-Experience in sustainability reporting and the EU climate policy landscape. Proven ability to translate complex technical and regulatory content into clear, compelling communications.
-Experience supporting C-suite executives in high-profile external engagements.
-Excellent writing, editing, and stakeholder-management skills in an international context.
-Excellent English required, other Outokumpu languages (Finnish, Swedish, German) as advantage.
