As a university-level initiative to boost scientific excellence, Tampere University launched the Tampere Institute for Advanced Study in 2021. The purpose of the Institute is to provide its Fellows an opportunity to concentrate on conducting research of highest quality and thus advance to their next career stage. To this end, the Institute grants Fellowships to researchers in all scientific fields represented at Tampere University. The Institute also invites leading international researchers for short visits, collaborates with similar institutes and organizes scientific events. Its activities are tightly connected with the research conducted in the faculties of Tampere University.

The Tampere Institute for Advanced Study now calls for applications for nine (9) Postdoctoral Research Fellow positions. The positions will be filled full-time for a fixed-term period of two (2) years, starting on 1 September 2026 and ending on 31 August 2028.

Please note that you may submit only one (1) application—either for the Postdoctoral Research Fellowship or the Senior Research Fellowship—after selecting the option that best matches your current academic career stage, and only within one (1) focus area (health, society or technology).

The positions are based in Tampere where the appointed Fellows are expected to be primarily physically present.  

Eligibility and evaluation of applicants

To be eligible to apply for these Postdoctoral Research Fellowships, your doctoral degree certificate must be dated between 2 March 2021 and 2 March 2026 (certificates dated on 2 March 2021 and 2 March 2026 are eligible). Orientation towards intensive international research collaboration is appreciated but is not a necessary precondition for applying. 

Applications for these Postdoctoral Research Fellowships will be evaluated based on the scientific quality and the ambition of the proposed work plans as presented in the application materials. Work plans will be assessed against the following key evaluation criteria: 

  • High scientific quality and innovativeness 
  • Feasibility

Academic achievement will be taken into account, assessed in relation to the length of the applicant’s past research career. We expect demonstrated ability to conduct independent research. 

Please note that the appointed Fellows may be expected to give postgraduate education of their field (up to 5% of total working hours). 

Shortlisted applications will be sent to external evaluators for review. Please note that interviews will not be conducted.

Salaries are based on job demands and employees’ personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. According to the criteria applied to teaching and research staff, the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow is placed on level 5-6 of the job requirements scale. A typical starting salary for Postdoctoral Research Fellows at the Tampere Institute for Advanced Study is between €4100–4300 per month. Salaries can be negotiated after a period of six months from the beginning of employment within the salary system. A trial period applies to all our new employees.       

Tampere University will cover each Fellow’s reasonable research-related costs, such as travel, publishing, and infrastructure operating costs.

Yliopisto vahvisti tutkimuksensa korkeaa tieteellistä tasoa käynnistämällä uuden tutkijakollegiumin vuonna 2021. Tampereen yliopiston tutkijakollegium (Tampere Institute for Advanced Study) on yliopistotason tutkimusyhteisö, joka tarjoaa kilpailukykyisimmille tutkijoille tilaisuuden keskittyä omaan tutkimukseensa, nostaa tutkimuksensa uudelle tasolle sekä laajentaa tutkimushorisonttiaan. Tutkijakollegium tarjoaa tutkijanpaikkoja kaikilla Tampereen yliopiston kolmella vahvalla alueella. Tutkijakollegium kutsuu myös johtavia kansainvälisiä tutkijoita lyhyille vierailuille, tekee yhteistyötä muiden vastaavien instituuttien kanssa ja järjestää tieteellisiä tapahtumia.

Tampereen yliopiston tutkijakollegium hakee nyt yhteensä yhdeksää (9) tutkijatohtoria kahden (2) vuoden kokoaikaisiin ja määräaikaisiin tehtäviin. 

Tutkimuskaudet alkavat 1.9.2026 ja päättyvät 31.8.2028. 

Huomioithan, että voit jättää vain yhden (1) hakemuksen — joko tutkijatohtorin tai yliopistotutkijan tehtävään — valitsemalla sen vaihtoehdon, joka parhaiten vastaa nykyistä akateemista uravaihettasi. Hakemuksen voi jättää vain yhteen (1) painoalueeseen (terveys, yhteiskunta tai tekniikka).

Hakijoiden kelpoisuus ja hakemusten arviointi

Tutkijatohtorin tehtäviin voivat hakea hakijat, joiden tohtorintutkinnon todistus on päivätty 2.3.2021-2.3.2026 väliselle ajalle (mukaan lukien 2.3.2021 ja 2.3.2026 päivätyt todistukset).

Arvostamme suuntautumista intensiiviseen kansainväliseen tutkimusyhteistyöhön, mutta tämä ei ole edellytys hakemiselle.

Hakemukset arvioidaan esitetyn työsuunnitelman tieteellisen laadun ja kunnianhimon perusteella. Työsuunnitelmat arvioidaan seuraavien keskeisten arviointikriteerien pohjalta:  

  • korkea tieteellinen laatu ja innovatiivisuus 
  • toteutettavuus 

Akateemiset saavutukset otetaan huomioon suhteutettuna hakijan tutkimusuran pituuteen. Edellytämme kykyä itsenäiseen tieteelliseen työhön. 

Huomioithan, että valittujen tutkijatohtorien voidaan odottaa antavan alansa jatkokoulutusta (enintään 5 % kokonaistyöajasta).
