Project Researcher

We are looking for a

Project Researcher

to study the responses by zooplankton to ocean acidification and warming in the marine environment. Applicants who are interested in pursuing a PhD within the project are given preference. 

You will participate in a project funded by the Research Council of Finland and collect new information on ocean acidification and warming effects on zooplankton communities. You will work in the lab and field, onboard a research vessel and abroad, analyze data and be responsible for drafting manuscripts with our team and collaborators. 

The project researcher will work at the Faculty of Bioeconomy in a project titled Losing weight – Eco-physiology and transcriptomics reveal climate forcing on lipid profiles and adaptation in marine biota. The project researcher will be working as a part in our team (https://www.novia.fi/en/rdi/research-area/systemic-transformation-to-build-resilience/research-area-in-bioeconomy/blue-ecosystems ) and process different marine samples. Employment is 80% of total working hours.

The tasks include

  • Sample collection, analyses and preparation
  • Data processing and analyses
  • Draft manuscripts with the team and publish the work
  • Communication tasks

We seek a motivated, hard-working person that has a MSc degree (in marine biology, ecology, environmental biology, eco-physiology, genetics or similar), is an excellent team worker with social skills, has previous working experience in research projects, and is fluent in written and spoken English. It will be an asset if you are familiar with gene expression or omics data.

Salary according to General collective agreement for Universities of Applied Sciences and internal directives. The position includes a probationary period of six months and starts from 1.11.2024 or as according to the agreement. The position is funded until 31.8.2028.
