Mechanical Engineer

Position Overview:
We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Helsinki. The successful candidate will play a key role in the design, development, and testing of advanced mechanical components for Thor Dynamics directed energy systems. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative technologies that make a real-world impact on national security and critical infrastructure protection.

Key Responsibilities:
Design and develop mechanical systems and components for directed energy and counter-drone defense systems.
Perform detailed engineering analysis, including stress analysis, thermal analysis, and fluid dynamics.
Create 3D models, technical drawings, and specifications using CAD software.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical engineers, software developers, and project managers.
Oversee prototype development, testing, and validation of mechanical components.
Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical design issues throughout the product lifecycle.
Ensure designs meet industry standards, safety regulations, and performance requirements.
Support the setup and operation of the 30-hectare test and demonstration facility in Helsinki area.

Qualifications:
Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
3+ years of experience in industrial mechanical engineering, preferably in defense, aerospace, robotics or related industries.
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
Strong understanding of materials science, thermodynamics, and structural analysis.
Experience with prototyping, testing, and validating mechanical systems.
Knowledge of directed energy systems or laser technologies is a plus.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Fluent in English; proficiency in Finnish is an advantage.
Candidates must possess either Finnish citizenship or citizenship from another EU member state or US and have legal residency in Finland. This requirement is essential due to security clearance regulations tied to our project scope.
