Kelem International School (KIS) has a rich 78-year history in Addis Ababa. Originally established under the Swedish Embassy in Ethiopia, the school transitioned in 2019 to an independent, not-for-profit international institution. KIS maintains a legacy of academic excellence, student-centred learning, and fostering global citizenship.
We seek a passionate and experienced Self-Contained Teacher (Class Teacher) for our Primary School. This role suits educators who excel in student-centred environments and are dedicated to inquiry-based learning aligned with the principles of the Finnish curriculum.

With around 200 students from 28 nationalities, we blend the Finnish curriculum with international best practices for Grades 1-10, alongside the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) for Kindergarten. Job Summary
The Self-Contained Teacher will provide comprehensive instruction in core subjects including Math, English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science. Responsibilities include:
Planning and delivering inquiry-based, engaging lessons.
Differentiating instruction to accommodate diverse learning needs.
Creating an inclusive classroom environment fostering students’ academic and emotional growth.
Collaborating with colleagues to refine curriculum and teaching strategies.
Using varied assessment methods to guide instruction and provide meaningful feedback.
Integrating technology to enhance learning.
Maintaining clear, ongoing communication with parents.
Supporting school-wide initiatives, extracurricular activities, and professional development.
Upholding school values and promoting global citizenship.
Reports to: Team Leader
Coordinates with: Principals, Team Leaders, Teaching staff, Learning Support Department, and Parents
Job Requirements
Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Education required; Master’s preferred.
Certification & Experience: Valid primary teaching certification, minimum 3 years’ teaching experience; familiarity with Finnish curriculum an advantage.
Pedagogical Expertise: Skilled in lesson planning promoting independence and critical thinking; knowledgeable in inclusive educational practices.
Communication & Collaboration: Fluent in English (written and verbal); knowledge of Amharic advantageous; proven interpersonal skills in multicultural contexts.
