Senior Lecturer, International Business

You will be expected to possess a masters degree qualification in a relevant field, as well as have an advanced level in spoken and written English. Extensive teaching experience at the university or preferably university of applied sciences level is required. In addition, a minimum of three years practical experience of working in an international business field makes you qualified for the position.

The successful candidate must be able to actively contribute to our new Design Based Education (DBE) curriculum. Strong abilities of guiding and mentoring are key when using DBE pedagogy, therefore advanced communication skills with a focus on student centered learning is a must. As a DBE practitioner, student facilitation with regards to complex and multidisciplinary company cases is essential, and you will be expected to take on different roles during company challenges, such as expert, mentor and facilitator. Moreover, you are expected to innovative and possess the ability to develop modes of operation, both related to education and company challenges.

To be the successful candidate you are an agile person with wide-ranging competence in the business field and can teach and mentor several business-related subjects from entry-level to in-depth knowledge. In addition, you should have experience in supervising bachelor-level thesis.

It is essential that teaching and mentoring is conducted regarding applied research and current practice. Therefore, your profile and the ability to network and develop partnerships with external organizations is relevant, to further enhance the university’s and the degree programme’s reputation and profile. Furthermore, a strong commitment to self-development and multicultural competences are required.

We highly appreciate candidates who have a passion and the knowledge, skills and competences to meaningfully contribute to a student-centric DBE curriculum. The applicant must have competences in the following substance areas. In addition, proven experience in the following areas is also required:
– Understanding and the ability to practically apply a wide range of business topics in your teaching
– Competences and experience in data-based company development and implementing business analytics and intelligence
– Thesis guidance
– Student guidance
– University enterprise cooperation
– Bonus but not must: Competence in applying for national and international funding from different sources

The work will start on August 1st 2025 or according to a mutual agreement. The selected candidate will have a six-month probation period.

You will be working mainly at HAMK’s Valkeakoski campus. Remote working for a portion of the working time is possible based on mutual agreement.

The qualification requirements for a senior lecturer at the university of applied sciences level in Finland are in accordance with decree 1129/2014 § 17. A Senior Lecturer is also required to have 60 credits or 35 study weeks of pedagogical studies. Notwithstanding this, a Senior Lecturer may be recruited on the condition that they complete the required pedagogical studies within three years from the start of their employment.
