Test Automation Lead, Vaisala

Vaisala is a global leader in measurement instruments and intelligence helping industries, nations, people, and the planet to thrive. From predicting hurricanes to optimising renewable energy production, our technology is used where it matters the most – from data centres, windfarms and laboratories to airports, the Arctic and even the surface of Mars. Our team of over 2,300 experts and 59 nationalities around the world is committed to taking every measure for the planet. Driven by our shared purpose, curiosity, and pioneering spirit, we stay ahead and make a difference. At Vaisala, you don’t have to fit in to belong.

Would you be our new Test Automation Lead?

We are now looking for a Test Automation Lead to join Vaisalas Avimet product team. Avimet is a mission-critical system used by air traffic control and aviation professionals in over 150 countries, combining meteorological data and operational information to support safe and efficient decision making. The product is currently in a major modernisation phase, where a legacy Windows-based solution and a modern Linux-based solution coexist and evolve side by side. In this role, you will own testing and particularly test automation, and play a key role in ensuring that modernisation does not compromise reliability, safety or quality.

As Test Automation Lead, you will be the overall owner of testing and test automation in the Avimet team. Your work is predominantly hands-on: you will design, implement and maintain automated tests, develop test environments and take an active role in day-to-day testing. At the same time, you will analyse the current landscape, identify improvement opportunities and shape how testing supports the product roadmap and modernisation strategy. You will play a crucial part in determining where automation brings the most value and how testing should evolve.

Your daily responsibilities will include designing and implementing automation for complex, safety-critical functionality; testing React- and TypeScript-based dashboards; integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines; and managing virtualised or containerised test environments. Additionally, you will mentor other testers, drive improvements in processes and documentation, and ensure compliance with regulatory, security and performance requirements typical for safety-critical environments. You will work in close collaboration with other testers, developers, the Development Manager and key stakeholders.

This is a full-time and permanent position, starting as soon as possible. You will be employed by Biisoni and working on assignment at Vaisala. The position is based at Vaisalas headquarters in Vantaa, Finland. Vaisala offers a hybrid work model, and in this team there is a preference for working on site two days a week.

What are we looking for?

You bring solid experience in test automation within complex systems and are comfortable taking ownership of the overall testing approach. You have practical skills with modern automation frameworks such as Robot Framework or Selenium, along with basic Python skills, and you understand how to integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines. Experience with both Windows and Linux environments is highly valuable, as is familiarity with virtual machines, containers and web-based solutions built with modern technologies. You are comfortable working in regulated or safety-critical domains, and ideally you have already led or owned test automation processes in some capacity.

Beyond technical skills, you communicate clearly, collaborate well with cross-functional teams, and have the persistence, curiosity and problem-solving mindset needed for navigating both legacy systems and modern technologies. You are comfortable leading by example, guiding others and making decisions that shape testing practices for the long term. Your mindset is investigative, hands-on and improvement-oriented, and you are energised by the idea of influencing a mission-critical product used around the world. Fluent English is required, as well as at least good communicative skills in Finnish.

Why us?

Joining Vaisala means joining a company whose products have a real, global impact on safety, sustainability and operational efficiency. In the Avimet team, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of a highly visible aviation system used in more than 150 countries. The product is undergoing significant modernisation, giving you a rare chance to influence the testing architecture, processes and tools at a pivotal moment. You will work with experienced colleagues in a supportive environment that values collaboration, quality and long-term development. Vaisalas hybrid work model provides flexibility, and the company is known for its people-oriented culture – many employees choose to stay for years because they feel genuinely supported and engaged. The role offers a competitive salary in the range of approximately 5500–6500 euros per month, depending on experience.
