The Faculty of Law at the University of Lapland is recruiting a Research Assistant for the Arctic Transitions, Energy and Climate Governance Horizons in the Far North project.<\/p>\n

The aim of the Arctic Transitions (AT) project is to critically examine how rapidly changing climatic conditions and a race to extract rare and valuable earth materials have made Arctic regions the focus of new extractive possibilities, as well as a laboratory for testing who controls these possibilities.<\/p>\n

To meet this aim, the AT project is hiring a team to conduct comparative multidisciplinary research at locations across Arctic nations to explore:<\/p>\n

– How and why changing climatic conditions and new resource demands are shaping extraction activities, infrastructures, security configurations, and governance arrangements.<\/p>\n

– The impact of these activities and arrangements on the people and communities who live in these regions.<\/p>\n

– How and why energy security and energy transition narratives are being mobilised, by whom, and to what end.<\/p>\n

– How and why these activities, infrastructures, configurations and arrangements are connected to, and entangled with, international legal provisions and flows of capital.<\/p>\n

This is an exciting and unique opportunity to be a core member of a cutting-edge research team, in an area of research that is fast-moving and of geopolitical significance.<\/p>\n

This is a 12-month position, based in Rovaniemi, with the possibility of remote working.<\/p>\n

The prospective start date is as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

Work Tasks<\/p>\n

The successful candidate will be a core and active member of the Arctic Transitions team. The central tasks of the successful candidate will be:<\/p>\n

– To create and update a captivating and dynamic project website.<\/p>\n

– To promote the projects international digital presence.<\/p>\n

– To create and promote digital and social media content for the project.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the successful candidate will also:<\/p>\n

– Find, aggregate, and organise research articles and books using the University of Laplands library resources and cognate search engines as assigned by the employer.<\/p>\n

– Find, aggregate, and organise current affairs and media reports using the University of Laplands library resources and cognate search engines as assigned by the employer.<\/p>\n

– Contribute to AT project administration.<\/p>\n

– Participate in other duties related to the role assigned by the employer.<\/p>\n

Competence<\/p>\n

Prospective candidates must:<\/p>\n

– Have experience with website construction and design, digital media, and social media content creation.<\/p>\n

– Be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English at an academic level.<\/p>\n

Prospective candidates should:<\/p>\n

– Be pursuing a bachelor’s or masters degree.<\/p>\n

Previous research assistant experience will be considered a merit.<\/p>\n

\nSalary: The universitys salary system is made up of a task-specific salary component namely the demand level and a personal salary component namely the performance percentage. The task-specific salary for research assistant is demand level 1 (2 120,11 \u20ac\/ month). The personal salary component can typically range from 19,1% to 30%. The starting salary for Research Assistant is 2 525,05 \u20ac \/ month (demand level 1, performance 19,1%).
