The open position is with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology at Tampere University.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tuni.fi\/en\/about-us\/faculty-medicine-and-health-technology\" target=\"_blank\">The Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology<\/a> (MET) is committed to high quality research and education in the fields of biomedical engineering, biotechnology, medicine, and health technology. We conduct basic, applied, clinical, and translational research in collaboration with Tampere University Hospital (TAYS).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job description\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are seeking highly motivated applicants with a track record of internationally competitive research in microbiology. We welcome applicants with a strong basic science expertise e.g. in virology or bacteriology in line with the research focus areas of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tuni.fi\/en\/about-us\/faculty-medicine-and-health-technology#switcher-trigger-research\" target=\"_blank\">MET faculty<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>You are expected to pursue and supervise scientific research in your topic area at the highest level. Active collaboration with local, national and global research partners, as well as with clinical stakeholders and industry is encouraged. You will be expected to secure substantial external funding for your research as well as nurture interactions with the wider society. You are also expected to contribute to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tuni.fi\/en\/about-us\/faculty-medicine-and-health-technology#switcher-trigger-education\" target=\"_blank\">degree education<\/a> in line with your own expertise.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The position will be placed in one of the three basic science units of the MET faculty, determined by the research profile and interests of the selected applicant.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In BIO unit, research focuses on fundamental cellular processes and immunology. We utilize molecular genetics, biophysics, biochemistry, systems and cell biology.<\/li>\n<li>In MEDI unit, genome wide methods, computational approaches and experimental models are developed and utilized to understand the mechanisms of diseases, e.g. in celiac disease and cancer.<\/li>\n<li>In TECH unit, interdisciplinary research areas include cell technologies for various tissue and disease states, research in biomaterials, biomedical micro- and nanotechnologies, health informatics, bioimaging, biophysics, biosensors and body-on-chip technologies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Requirements\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You should have an <strong>applicable doctoral degree\u00a0<\/strong>and postdoctoral training in a relevant area (e.g. in bacteriology, virology, infection biology, immunology, microbiome research, vaccinology) for pursuing a tenure track career in the field of microbiology. Teaching experience is regarded favorably.<\/p>\n<p><u>For the Assistant Professor position, we require:<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ability to undertake independent scholarly activity and potential to pursue scholarly activity at a high international level of excellence, \u00a0<\/li>\n<li>teaching skills required to successfully perform the duties and functions of the position,\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>suitable proof and track record on the potential for applying and acquiring external research funding.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>For the Associate Professor position, we require:<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>track record of independent scholarly activity,<\/li>\n<li>teaching skills to successfully perform the duties and functions of the position,<\/li>\n<li>suitable proof and track record on the ability to lead a research group and acquire external funding,\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>track record of international scholarly activity.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>For the Professor position, we require:<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>high-level scholarly expertise\u00a0including track record of international scholarly activity,<\/li>\n<li>experience of leading scientific research,\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>ability to provide high-quality research-based education and instruction,<\/li>\n<li>track record of winning external research funding,<\/li>\n<li>track record on academic teaching and supervision of PhD and undergraduate degrees.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The position requires good communication skills in English.\u00a0If the appointee is not proficient in Finnish, they are expected to acquire moderate proficiency within a reasonable time after the appointment for management of administrative responsibilities and for enhancing competitiveness and societal impact.
